Father David Ajemian of the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston is a huge fan of Conan O’Brien. He’s a little too fervent of a fan, matter of fact, and has been accused of stalking the late night television host. He has sent O’Brien numerous letters, calling himself “your priest stalker” and has also been in contact with O’Brien’s parents. The priest has now been arrested.

When Sam Sabbagh was 17 years old, in the year 1947, he was visiting a synagogue in the Holy Land. The synagogue had just been burned the day before in protests toward the coming Israeli State. He found a scrap of parchment on the floor with Hebrew letters, and picked it up. He carried it with him as a sort of good luck charm for sixty years. It turns out, parchment was part of one of the most important documents of the original Hebrew Bible. Now that Sabbagh has passed on, his family is donating the credit-card sized piece of parchment to an institute in Israel.

Rabbi Steven Greenberg is the first openly gay Orthodox Jewish rabbi, and he’s sure to raise some eyebrows with his assertions. He is saying that the Bible does not oppose homosexuality, and that the entire Bible is open to interpretation according to each person’s understanding. I am sure that most other Orthodox rabbis won’t be agreeing with him on this one.

In new documents coming to light in the Warren Jeffs accomplice to rape case, it turns out Jeffs tried to hang himself in his prison cell back in January. Last month, polygamist Mormon sect leader Warren Jeffs was convicted of two counts of accomplice to rape because he arranged a marriage between one of his followers - a 14-year-old girl - and her 19-year-old cousin. He will be sentenced later this month, and could face life in prison.

A group of students at a high school in Virginia wanted to start an after-school club based on the principles of abstinence and opposition to abortion. The school turned them down, but when the students fought back on free-speech grounds, the school caved. I’m glad. I can understand prohibiting teachers from making religious or political statements that could be construed as school policy, but prohibiting students from speaking their opinions? Come on.
