This is just sad. An 8-month-old baby girl who was still breast-feeding has been taken away from her mother and given to her father. The court ruled against the mother in divorce custody proceedings, based on accusations the father had made. He had no proof, but said that the mother was involved in the Jehovah Witness religion. So what? Even if the JW religion is a bunch of bunk, that doesn’t mean she’s an unfit mother! And to take a nursing baby away from her mother for such a stupid reason - and without proof? How horrible! And even worse, the woman herself says she is not JW, that her husband just made it up to get custody.

I never knew this, but there is an organized group of pro-life musicians called Rock for Life, and it includes such superstars as Avril Lavigne and Christina Aguilera. Some Rock for Life musicians just contributed to a CD for Amnesty International. The CD was meant to raise support for the Darfur region of the Sudan. Now, Amnesty International has come out with a new pro-abortion policy, and Rock for Life is pretty ticked that they weren’t told ahead of time. Not to mention that Amnesty has huge Catholic ties, so I’m sure Rock for Life isn’t the only group of people that are angered by the new policy.

The Catholic Church in Italy receives special tax breaks on real estate taxes, as well as corporate taxes for church-owned businesses. Now the European Union is investigating these tax breaks, on the basis that they may give an advantage to Catholic institutions over other churches and religious organizations. I kind of always figured the whole country of Italy was pretty much run by the Pope, anyway, but I guess I was wrong.

A Muslim organization and a Christian organization in the country of Norway have formed a pact. The pact states that they can each proselytize and convert people within the faiths with no harrassment. The organizations in question are the The Islamic Council of Norway and the Lutheran Church of Norway Council on Ecumenical and International Relations. So people are free to choose their own religion? And to talk to others about their religion of choice? What a concept!
