Christian evangelist in North Korea to be executed

Friday, July 20th, 2007

While countries the former Soviet Union has gotten rid of communism and allowed (mostly) freedom of religion, North Korea continues to take a hard line against any Christian evangelism. Evangelist Son Jong Nam is set to be executed after more than a year of being held in prison and tortured for spreading the Christian faith. Senator and presidential candidate Sam Brownback is working to try to get the UN or US government to intervene.

Pope hopes to visit New York in 2008

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Pope Benedict XVI hopes to visit New York City in 2008, his representatives say. I can’t help wondering if his reception will be a little different than it would’ve been before he announced that only members of the Catholic Church are truly going to heaven or can be saved. His announcement that only the Catholic Church was the true church and the only means of salvation hasn’t been received too well by Orthodox, Evangelical and Protestant Christians.

Hoodia?

Friday, July 20th, 2007

I have heard that hoodia is a natural weight loss product, that makes someone feel like they are full and not hungry. I would really like to try hoodia for this reason, because I never feel like I have eaten enough when I walk away from the table, it has to be me stopping myself or I could just eat forever. Hoodia would help with this though, if it does what it is supposed to!

Do Not Take My Blood Please!

Friday, July 20th, 2007

When I went to the hospital for my anxiety attack which I thought was for sure a heart attack, they used a pulse oximeter on my fingertips, and it kind of hurt! It is great how medical technology can take us further in not getting hurt during testing though. Instead of testing actual blood samples the pulse oximeter is applied to the fingertips to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood. I would rather have something on my fingertip than having my blood drawn if it does not need to be! It probably saves on medical costs as well.

Monastery offering retreat for war veterans

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Monks from The Society of St. John the Evangelist are offering a special retreat at their monastery. The retreat in October, called Binding Up Our Wounds, is reserved for members of the military who have recently returned from Iraq and are in need of rest and counseling. I think this is admirable – I only wish our government gave as much help to returning soldiers.
